The RWOS is a chapter of the Alabama Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women.

NFRW/ASC State Quilt Contest
The State Quilt Contest we hope to see become a tradition. We are creating this contest among the state and Independent Federations in hope to show support our troops and two of our projects. The Project this year (2009) is to financially help with the web site Any Soldier.com. The quilts will go to Quilts of Valor. They will specifically be ear marked for Korea Veterans (“The forgotten War”) in Veterans Hospitals. Representative from Quilts of Valor informed me last year all the quilts/afghans taken to the hospital have been Ear marked for Iraq/Afghanistan soldiers. The hospitals had expressed they were having an influx of Korean and Vietnam Veterans that they weren’t prepared for; there aren’t donations for these Vets. Korea having older vets we have started with them to be honored.

RULES for QUILTS:
• Theme: Your State’s History (remember you have entering the union year, bird, tree, flower, some have president of United States, historical events, state flag)
• Finished size should be approximately 50” X 60”
• Fabric 100% cotton (which wears and washes well)
• Should be quilted by hand or machine no less than 2” part. (No tied quilts)
• Cloth tag will be provided to be sewn on the lower right hand corner (send a stamped self addressed envelope for your tag); be proud we want the vets and everyone to know who donated them.
Should be usable not just beautiful
• Each State/Federation will sale votes for their quilt at the 2009 NFRW Convention in Florida.
• The tickets will be $1.00 a vote. (Monies will be turned over to the ASC to be tallied)
• There will be a prize for the State who wins.
• Each state’s entry will have to provide their own easel to display their quilt. Please don’t depend on the Hotel as they will not have over fifty easels.
• Armed Service Committee sees this as a “win win” project as the Veterans win, Any Soldier.Com wins and the NFRW wins as America will see we care!
• Contact: Lyn Sanchez and let her know you have got the rules and you are on board. YOU will make this successful.
• Note: Every state has a Quilter’s Guild; think of the Republicans out there quilting who could be brought into the Federation with this project!!!!
