TIM JAMES: A Record of Achievement; A Passion to Serve

Since his formative years of growing up in the household of a results-driven business entrepreneur father and later Governor of Alabama, Fob James, and a mother, Bobbie James, who taught the tenets of Christian charity, Tim James has strived to realize his dream for Alabama.

A native of Opelika, Tim was recruited to play football at Auburn University, where he admittedly earned the dubious honor of being one of Auburn’s slowing running backs. With teammates Bo Jackson and Tommy Agee and Coach Pat Dye, he had plenty of inspiration. It was during his college years that Tim met Angela Whittle. They married and soon thereafter Tim graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Finance.

From the outset, Tim James was destined to be an entrepreneur. From 1988 through 1996, Tim bought and operated an asphalt construction business; then built and operated an incineration company that treated environmentally safe industrial waste. He went on to create the Escambia County Environmental Corporation with members of his family, which operates the very successful Timberlands Landfill.

As a young Alabama entrepreneur and small business owner, Tim learned what it means to put your heart into making a company successful. He learned how important it is to have a vision, to set goals, to insist on excellence and to continually look for innovative ways to succeed.

He also learned what it means to hire Alabamians, to reward hard work, and how important leadership, responsibility and integrity are when another person is relying on you to put food on their table and clothes on their children.
In 1996, Tim sold his construction and environmental companies and formed the Baldwin County Bridge Company, LLC, where he became managing partner. The primary project of this company is the $36 million Foley Beach Express – a true Alabama success story.

The Foley Beach Express includes a toll bridge that Tim and his partners built which enables Alabama drivers to safely reach Alabama beaches much quicker than in the past. The bridge project has been a model for success. It not only provides an invaluable service, it has provided Alabamians with jobs, it has already improved the economy of an entire region of the state, and the entire project was completed at no cost to the taxpayer.

In 2006, Tim sold the Baldwin County Bridge Company to an investor group. Since then, he has been a developer and investor in a number of Alabama projects.

Tim’s entry into politics began in 2001 when he announced he was a Republican candidate for Governor of Alabama. Governor Bob Riley won the 2002 primary, of course, and went on to win later in November for his first of two terms.
In May of 2008, Tim James became a candidate for Governor of Alabama in the 2010 Republican primary election. He has a full-time staff and office in Montgomery. Currently, he’s traveling Alabama and working 24/7 to help Republican candidates win in November.

Tim currently resides in Greenville, Alabama with Angela and their three children; Fleming 23, Tim Jr. 20, and Sarah 15.
